Christ Jesus Our Wisdom, Flowing from God
In 1 Corinthians 1:30, Paul says,
“Because of Him, you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God—righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.”
This verse isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about Christ being a living stream of God’s wisdom, flowing to you every day. Paul didn’t say, “Christ is wisdom.” He said Christ became wisdom to us from God. It’s like a faucet God keeps open, pouring out wisdom through Jesus when we need it.
A Real-Life Example of Wisdom’s Flow
A few years ago, my husband, Dick, had a wound that wouldn’t heal. He was going to a wound center, and I was cleaning and packing it every other day. But it wasn’t getting better.
One morning, I was praying, hand on my chin, saying, “God, what’s going on here?” Suddenly, the word “water” popped into my mind. Dick barely drank any water—maybe a sip a day.
I asked his doctor if drinking more water could help, and she said, “Absolutely!” Dick started drinking eight glasses a day, and in two weeks, his wound healed. I wasn’t trying to be smart; I just turned to God, and Christ became wisdom to me, like a clear answer flowing straight from Him.
Paul’s Point to the Corinthians
Paul wrote this verse to the Corinthian church, who were struggling. They were arguing, chasing human smarts, and acting like they didn’t need God’s wisdom. Paul was saying, “Hey, Christ is your wisdom, but you’ve got to let Him flow from God to you!”
It’s like they had a beautiful stream nearby but were drinking from muddy puddles. Christ’s wisdom—practical, present, and personal—should keep flowing into our lives, guiding our choices, healing our hearts, and showing us the way.
How Does This Work Every Day?
This “flow” of wisdom isn’t about being a know-it-all. It’s about staying connected to God. Think of it like a phone call with a wise friend. You talk to Jesus, maybe saying, “I’m stuck, help me out.”
Then you listen for His nudge—a thought, a feeling, or a Bible verse that lights the way. Like my “water” moment, it’s often simple but exactly what you need at the time. Maybe it’s wisdom for a tough talk with a friend or a choice about work. Christ keeps being wisdom, day after day, as you lean on Him.
Tapping Into the Stream
So how do we live this? Start your day with a quick prayer: “Christ Jesus, I'm so grateful for the wisdom you bring to me daily.” Pause when you’re confused and ask, “God, what’s next?” Notice the small nudges—those “aha” moments that feel like gifts.
And don’t do what the Corinthians did—don’t lean on your own ideas or the world’s advice. Trust Christ to bring God’s wisdom, like water from a spring, fresh and life-giving.
Discussion Questions
Can you share a time when you sensed Christ’s wisdom, like a nudge or idea that helped you?
What keeps you from tapping into Christ’s wisdom, like the Corinthians did? How can you stay open to God’s flow?
How can you remind yourself to turn to Jesus for wisdom in small, daily moments or in large scary moments?
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for being my wisdom from God, a living stream that never runs dry. May I turn to You every day, trusting You to guide me with Your perfect wisdom right when I need it. May my heart stay open to Your nudges, so I won't chase my own ideas. Let Your wisdom flow into my life, bringing peace, direction, and healing. Amen.
